Dr. Vasileios Kafetzopoulos, MD, Ph.D. – Board Member

Dr. Vasileios Kafetzopoulos contributes significant clinical and research expertise to the Cyprus Neuroscience Society (C.N.S.) as a board member. As a Lecturer of Psychiatry at the University of Cyprus and a trained clinical psychiatrist, he brings a valuable translational perspective to the Society’s mission. Dr. Kafetzopoulos’s research focuses on the neurobiology of stress and depression, particularly investigating the nucleus reuniens as a key node in stress-related neurocircuitry and the prefrontal cortex-hippocampus communication network. His multidisciplinary background in psychopharmacology, behavioral models of psychiatric disorders, and electrophysiology exemplifies the integrative approach that C.N.S. seeks to foster. With extensive publication experience examining sex differences in psychopharmacological responses and neurobiological mechanisms underlying psychiatric conditions, Dr. Kafetzopoulos embodies the Society’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge neuroscience research. His work connecting bench research to clinical applications supports C.N.S.’s vision of promoting neuroscience education and collaborative research that improves understanding of neurological and psychiatric conditions in Cyprus and beyond.
