Terms and Conditions for Membership Registration
Welcome to the Cyprus Neuroscience Society (C.N.S.), a non-profit scientific organization dedicated to advancing neuroscience research and education in Cyprus. By registering as a member, you agree to abide by the following terms and conditions, as outlined in the C.N.S. Statute (approved August 1, 2024).
1. Membership Categories
C.N.S. offers five membership categories, each with specific eligibility criteria and obligations:
- Regular Members: Open to individuals (Cypriots or foreigners) residing or working in Cyprus, aged 18 or older, holding a degree, postgraduate title, or research work in neuroscience or related fields (e.g., medicine, biology, psychology). Fee: €30 (€5 one-time registration + €25 annual subscription).
- Student Members: Open to undergraduate or postgraduate students (Cypriots or foreigners), aged 18 or older. Proof of student status must be emailed to info@cnscyprus.com post-registration. Fee: €15 (€2.50 one-time registration + €12.50 annual subscription, 50% of Regular Member fees). Voting and election rights are granted only to students who have completed undergraduate studies.
- Honorary Members: Individuals with exceptional scientific achievements or significant contributions to neuroscience, nominated by the Board of Directors and approved by the General Assembly. No registration or annual fees. Voting rights granted, but no eligibility for Board election.
- Associate Members: Open to individuals (Cypriots or foreigners) permanently residing abroad, meeting Regular Member qualifications. Fee: €30 (€5 one-time registration + €25 annual subscription). Voting rights granted, but no eligibility for Board election.
- Corporate Members: Companies, organizations, associations, or similar entities interested in C.N.S. activities. Represented by a designated individual. Fee: €105 (€5 one-time registration + €100 annual subscription). No voting or Board election rights.
2. Registration Process
To become a member, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old and support the scientific objectives of C.N.S. (per Article 3 of the Statute).
- Submit a written application via the relevant online form (Regular, Student, Associate, or Corporate), declaring acceptance of C.N.S.’s principles and objectives.
- Pay the applicable registration and annual subscription fees at the time of registration (see above).
- For Student Members, email proof of student status (e.g., student ID, enrollment letter) to info@cnscyprus.com after submitting the form.
The Board of Directors reviews applications. Upon approval, your name is added to the Membership Registry, and you’ll be notified. If rejected, you’ll receive a written explanation and a full refund of fees. You may reapply after six months or appeal to the General Assembly.
3. Member Rights
As a member, you have the following rights (per Article 5):
- All Members: Propose topics for General Assembly discussions, attend assemblies, participate in C.N.S. international activities, and access scholarships or workshops.
- Voting Rights: Granted to Regular Members, Student Members (post-undergraduate), Honorary Members, and Associate Members.
- Election Rights: Only Regular Members and Student Members (post-undergraduate) may be elected to the Board of Directors.
- Withdrawal: You may withdraw at any time by submitting a written resignation to the Secretary, effective upon receipt.
Membership is non-transferable, non-assignable, and non-inheritable.
4. Member Obligations
Members must (per Article 6):
- Pay the one-time registration fee and annual subscription (except Honorary Members).
- Comply with the Statute, General Assembly decisions, and Board of Directors’ rulings.
- For Student Members, provide proof of student status post-registration.
5. Financial Obligations
Fees are as follows (per Article 17):
- Regular/Associate: €30.71 (€5 registration + €25 annual, due January or upon registration + €0.71 card processing fees).
- Student: €15.48 (€2.50 registration + €12.50 annual + €0.48 card processing fees).
- Corporate: €108.50 (€5 registration + €100 annual + €3.50 card processing fees).
- Honorary: No fees.
Failure to pay annual subscriptions for two years, after written notice from the Treasurer, may lead to expulsion (Article 7). Fees are non-refundable, except in cases of application rejection.
6. Withdrawal and Expulsion
Per Articles 7 and 8:
- Withdrawal: Submit a written resignation to the Board. You remain liable for subscriptions until the end of the withdrawal year and must return any C.N.S. documents or materials.
- Expulsion: May occur for non-compliance with the Statute, failure to pay fees, actions harming C.N.S.’s reputation, or loss of eligibility (e.g., conviction for dishonesty). Expelled members are notified in writing and may attend a Board meeting to present their case. Decisions are final.
7. Code of Conduct
Members must:
- Act in alignment with C.N.S.’s non-profit, scientific mission (Article 3).
- Avoid actions that discredit C.N.S. or harm its interests.
- Provide accurate information during registration.
- Not engage in political activities under C.N.S.’s name (Article 21).
8. General Provisions
By registering, you acknowledge:
- C.N.S. is governed by its Statute and the laws of Cyprus (Societies and Foundations Law, 2017-2018).
- Membership does not confer property rights over C.N.S. assets.
- The Board may revise fees every two years (Article 17).
- C.N.S. is not liable for personal opinions expressed by members (Article 4).
